The Eagle has landed

Well, I will say today was one of the best Washington experiences we had yet, it started off as a sunny day which if you dont know is somewhat rare up here.
Rachel and I headed east to deming eagle park, which is a beautfiul scenic walk around the nooksack river to view bald eagles and other eagles looking for the afternoon salmon lunch. It was truly exciting. After about 2 minutes of walking we spotted our first one perched up in a tree, but throughout our half hour walk we saw more than 15 different bald eagles and a couple larger brown eagles.
I would say about 8 of them we saw standing just about right under the tree they we're perched in.
Definitely a cool experience.
This is Rachel walking up to the bird in the upper right as i was telling her to wait for me.

This is the eagle flying away after she kept moving forward.

web site pictures does not do it justice, but here is 5 of them in one tree.

After the bald eagle exploration we decided to drive up Mt. Baker scenic byway which we lucked out with the sunshine all day. From out apartment it's probably a total of an hour drive, Passing through many farms until you start getting more into the mountainess area where the nooksack river follows you almost all the way and viewing snowcover peaks on every turn.

That is Baker on the right, please excuse the "from the car photography"

some more mountains, these peaks are pretty powerful. Hopefully in summer time i can take some good hikes to get some even better pictures.

Hey guys, it is Hans's mom, Heidi. Just thought you might like to know that the 'brown eagles' most likely were immature or juvenile balds. We rehabbed many of them at the Audubon Center. They start getting their white heads and tails slowly around the age of 2-3. Enjoy the NW! Heidi
